MESSAGE
FROM THE FOOD PANTRY

HOW YOU CAN HELP THE FOOD PANTRY
VOLUNTEER NEEDS
BREAD PICK UP:
Panera Bread graciously donates bread to our food pantry every Tuesday
night. For the past several years, John and Sarah V. have been dutifully
picking up this bread every week. John and Sarah have decided to
retire. We thank thank them for their faithful service.
We are looking for someone to pick up this bread at 9
pm on Tuesday nights and deliver it to the food pantry. If you
are interested or have more questions please email the church office at
info@firstcongrevere.org
FOOD DELIVERY UNLOADING HELP:
Every third
Monday of the month is the scheduled pickup of food at the
Greater Boston Food Bank. We need people at the church at 11:30 a.m.
to help unload the Red Cross truck, put the food down the conveyor belt and
into the basement. It takes only about an hour to get the food
unloaded (less with more people). It is very difficult to get people
to help during the day and the need is great. Please let us know if
you can help.
FOOD DONATIONS: Some of the food items that are most needed are:
Tomato sauce, cereal, and vegetables. We can also always use protein foods
such as tuna and peanut butter.
WEDNESDAY EVENING VOLUNTEERS: are needed both on Wednesdays to setup
(6:30-7:00) and bag and register people (6:45-8:30). We ESPECIALLY need
help in the month of October, our busiest month due to people signing up
for Thanksgiving food. If you can commit to just this month, it would be a
real blessing to our food pantry.
GREAT BOSTON FOOD BANK
PICKUP:
We also need volunteers who might be available during
the day once or twice a month to help pickup food from the Greater Boston
Food Bank.
ANNUAL EVENTS
Walk
for Hunger
The Walk for Hunger is held each year, usually
the first Sunday in May. This event, sponsored by Project Bread,
supports 400 food pantries (including our own), soup kitchens and food
banks in 124 Massachusetts communities, so even friends outside the
church and co-workers may be willing to donate to this great cause. This
walk begins and
ends at the Boston Common with over 40,000 individuals participating in
the 20 mile walk. There are many ways to participate. You can walk, pledge
a donation to another walker, or volunteer at registration or checkpoints
along the way. If you are interested in the learning more about the Walk for Hunger, please visit the website at www.projectbread.org
Revere Postal Food Drive
The annual Revere Postal Drive
sponsored by The National Association of Letter Carriers from which we
receive our largest single donation of canned goods.
Letter carriers pick up donated non-perishable food from
customers along their route and deliver it to directly to our church. It
runs down the conveyor belt to the basement where dedicated volunteers
(this is where you come in...) sort all of it. Check back in the
Spring for more details.

Matthew
25: 34-40
34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come,
you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom
prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was
hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me
something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I
needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I
was in prison and you came to visit me37"Then the
righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,
or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see
you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When
did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever
you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for
me.' ~NIV~
